Meditation – discover the stillness you seek
If you feel that your head is overflowing with thoughts, you have little time to relax and that generally, you are on overdrive, then meditation may just be the thing to help ground you.
Or, you may already be pretty chilled and peaceful, but perhaps you’d like to feel more connected to your Self and the universe around you. Meditation can help with this too.
In fact, we could all benefit from meditation. This exercise for the brain isn’t about changing yourself, it’s about listening, observing and finding serenity within you.
What is meditation?
Meditation is a set of techniques to train the mind and gain awareness of your thoughts. It is listening to your mind without judgement – you’re not trying to switch your feelings off, more like being a passive observer of them.
When you meditate you focus on a single point; this is often the breath, but can also be chants, music or an image such as a flickering candle. You learn to observe random thoughts or simply let them go and refocus your mind.
“The soul loves to meditate, for in contact with the Spirit lies its greatest joy”Paramhansa Yogananda
How meditation works
At Beachyjax you’ll find meditation woven into the essence of everything we do. We’re firm believers in its benefits for mind, body and spirit.
Many of our yoga classes have meditations within them, especially Kundalini Yoga, which incorporates a higher level of meditation and chants that soothe the spirit.
We also offer a ‘Learn to Meditate’ workshop, where you can spend some in-depth time and space on the practice of meditation. This will help you establish your own meditation practice at home, as this is where the real benefits lie – from consistency and frequency.
Meditation has far-reaching benefits, including:
- Reduced stress
- Stronger immune system
- Better sleep
- Improved mood
- Less anxiety
- A clearer and more focused mind.
And the end result?
A calm, peaceful and focused version of you – feeling in tune with your Self, the world and your fellow human beings.
